How to Protect Your Sensitive Skin

Most of the time, the appearance of my skin worsens due to my surroundings. Especially since I live near a construction site, the dust pollutes the air and inevitably worsens the condition of my skin- pimples and whiteheads oh god…
Usually, our skin gets affected by the environment around us since it is in direct contact with air/pollutants. And not surprisingly, a new range of skincare has been on the rise aimed to protect our skin against pollutants.

So what exactly are we protecting our skin against?

Pollutants such as the sun, dust, haze and smoke which causes the outer layer of the skin (lipids) to be damaged, bringing about issues such as irritation! This is especially so for people who suffer from sensitive skin! A quick easy method to combat this would be applying sunblock! However, the bigger issue at hand is to deal with dehydrated skin due to a damaged moisture barrier.

Starting with a good range of skincare is obviously the best solution, I mean DUH? I tend to focus on dermatologically tested products such as Physiogel Daily Defence Facial Care range. Physiogel moisturising creams and lotions contain an advanced formulation called Physiogel BioMimic Technology, which contains lipids similar to those found naturally in skin. The ingredients in Physiogel BioMimic Technology mimic the skin’s natural structure to repair the moisture barrier, restoring the hydration your skin needs to stay strong and visibly healthy. YASSSSSSS

Starting with a good cleanser should be your utmost priority, since you want to cleanse all that dirt off your face and yet u want to keep all your natural oils on?! Tough life of a skincare product. This cleanser works perfectly for those suffering from sensitive skin, or users who just don’t like the “dry” feeling after washing your face. Personally for me, the product reminds me of those milk/gel cleansers on the market which are delicate on the skin. The great thing about DD Facial Cleanser is that it’s rinse free, all you have to do is massage face and wipe off with cotton pad.

  1. Gentle Facial Cleanser
  2.  Day Cream Light
  3.  Day Cream Rich (heavier texture than Day Cream Light)
  4.  Replenishing Night Cream

  2.  Advanced Physiogel BioMimic Technology

Top 5 Ways to relieve Period Pains

This one is for the girls who suffer from period cramps. I feel you, they suck. They make you lethargic, wear you out and ruin your day. School and work become way harder and since it’s not an official reason to take “leave”, other alternatives must be used to lessen our monthly female discomfort!

Uterus contractions cause much of the pain felt during the menstrual cycle because the contractions inhibit blood flow to the lining of the uterus. Abdominal cramps, low-back pain and leg discomfort are common symptoms. Taking pain medicine can help but only temporarily. It simply masks the pain instead of addressing the root of the challenge. All natural is the best way most of the time! Work with what mother nature has given to you!

Here are my top tips for relieving those dreaded period cramps

  1. Drinking Warm Tea

I love drinking warm tea, especially during my periods. It relaxes my body and helps me deal with my menstrual cramps. A great tip is to listen to music while your drink the tea and quieten your surroundings to help your mind relax and thus soothe the body! My favourite is to drink some green or camomile tea!

2. Yoga Stretches

This is a great one- if you have the space of course! The best pose to do is the camel pose as it lengthens the muscles around the abdominal area.

To start on the pose, kneel on the floor with the knees hips-width apart. Turn your thighs inward slightly and press your shins and feet firmly into the floor. Rest your hands on the back of your hips (place the base of your palms on the top part of your glutes and point your fingers down). Inhale, lift your chest, and press your shoulders down, towards the ribs.

Exhale, push the hips forward as you lengthen the front of the body and arch back. Keep your hands on the back of your hips or on the back of the heels. If you place your hand on the heels, press your toes into the floor to lift the heels higher. Use your hands to stabilize, push the hips forward, and lift the chest. Drop the head back, gaze upward, and breathe steadily. Stay in this pose for 30 to 60 seconds.

3. Eating dark chocolate

The most indulgent tip, but I love it. Eating chocolate during your period is actually scientifically proven to help reduce menstrual cramps as it’s a natural pain relief, can I get a hallelujah? Dark chocolate will satisfy your craving, help relax your muscles, and keep you happier without consuming the fat and dairy in other types of chocolate.

4. Drinking Water

So important in life! Your body needs to stay hydrated on regular days so all the more important when you are having your period. Like chocolate, it is reduces pain naturally.

5. AMMELTZ YOKOYOKO Air-Activated Body Warmer for the Lower Abdomen

Prior to the launch of the product, I used to put hot towels on my abdomen to reduce the pain. It was effective but always made my couch wet and it was such a hassle to clean up after (with all the drying! Yeeks!)

As mentioned above, painkillers only relief the pain temporarily and aren’t that great for the body! I used to be so reliant on such products, and the effect wore off due to the constant use. Furthermore, most of the time painkillers dedicated to menstrual cramps AREN’T specifically made for period cramps- they are just plain old regular pain meds, just repackaged..

Unlike painkillers, the heat pads have no side effects (yay!) since it’s all natural. The pads warm up to 40 degrees within seconds, using heat to reduce pain! Don’t be frightened though, the heat will not hurt/burn your skin. This is due to Japanese technology safely makes it possible to keep the heat within 40 degree Celsius. Made of natural ingredients, it reacts with the air and generates natural heat lasting for approximately 8 hours.

In the daytime, I like to keep the heat pads on for 2-3 hours while I work or rest at home, allowing the heat to help reduce the pain! While you’ll definitely notice something on your lower abdomen, it’s not uncomfortable.

Besides relieving menstrual pains, the new AMMELTZ YOKOYOKO Air-Activated Body Warmer can also help to relieve neck and shoulder pains! If you are suffering from chronic stiff shoulders or strong shoulder/ back pains and have no time to visit a masseur while you are at work or going to bed, the AMMELTZ YOKOYOKO Air-Activated Body Warmer – Neck & Shoulder can bring you quick relief anytime as it heats up within seconds! At a temperature of 40 degrees Celsius, it can soothe your pains naturally and with ease ☺

An old piece I got from fashion bunker ages ago… But I’m really digging the pastel blue (which is really in trend now btw) similar to the Pantone colour of year!

We were scrolling around CBD area when we came across these cool shadows on the wall that we really had to capture it.
